Without wishing to appear a prophet on doom its almost guaranteed that it will go faulty again, as these models were fitted with potentially defective image sensors with "all" having the potential to develop an internal fault.
These are subject to a free repair from JVC, the qualification being that you have to be in possession of the original warranty, (expired or not!) and the offer expires at the end of December 2008.
Of course your problem now is that it has to be showing the defect to obtain the free repair, so you will just have to hope it re-occurs before the end of December.

I think you're right jb38, I still have the warranty card/ certificate. Thanks for the info regarding the 2008 deadline. I'll bring this to the nearest JVC Service Center. I'll try to persuade them to do the repair, even if the unit is ok for now.
