JVC TV Model AV-32T4BK

Chris Chapman Posted Sep 30, 2008

Bought model in the UK, now moved to the Netherlands and will pick up and store picture but only gives white noise when stored

I have recently moved to Holland and have tried to store the local channels onto my JVC television. It will find all the channels with sound but as soon as I attempt to store the channels it only stores the picture and I get white noise with all channels. Please help as we have only had this tv a year and would hate to have to buy a new one. Cheers

Re reply I already made, I was reading your posting again and wondered what you mean by store, do you mean finding when tuning then saving them, or at least attempting to? I am not acquaint with that particular TV but if it has a fine tune facility for each channel try moving that slightly to compensate for the larger sound to vision gap than what the set was made for, and if possible switch off the AFC (automatic frequency control) In saving all that though, the main problem is that this set is made for a different standard of audio offset (from vision frequency) that what you are using it on, and so will never be correct.

The reason for the problem is that the TV broadcast standard used in the Netherlands is not the same as in the UK, as the audio offset in the Netherlands is 6Mhz, whereas in the UK its 5.5Mhz, this meaning that the sound and picture cannot be captured at the same time. You dont really have any option except to use a set top box with the TV, which effectively acts purely as a monitor, the set top box by the way being connected to the TV via scart or phono sockets and not an RF connection, as if you bought a box where you are located and used its RF aerial connection, (should it have one) you would still have the problem. This would also apply to a locally purchased VCR or whatever, and the main point of all this being only to use scart or phono connections into the TV. (UK TV broadcast system is (I) in the Netherlands its (B/G)
