JVC digital camcorder GR-D33u Mini DV

John Ballou Posted Sep 17, 2007

After letting camera battery go down for a few weeks instead of recharging it, "Lens Cap ON" message prevents further video recording of picture with JVC digital video camera camcorder GR-D33u Mini DV. Would like any repair info. Thank you.

As noted, I am one of the many who seem to be experiencing the problem that my JVC digital video camera camcorder GR-D33u will no longer take any pictures, still or video, because the message appears stating "Lens Cap on". I do not want to send it for expensive repairs, but want to disable the unnecessary feature of the lens cap being on. I can see through the camera or on the screen if the lens cap is still there, so this feature seems useless, but now disables the camera. Having noted so many people with the same problem, ISN'T IT ABOUT TIME TO CONSIDER A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST JVC?

I have just realized I have the same problem with mine. I haven't used it in a while. there should be a recall or something!

John has a point - a class-action might be the best route. You know JVC made major $$ off this & they know the problem is out here. We would have to look at Statute of limitations - but may be open since product provider, JVC, still on shelf. I will do further legal research and get back to you in the near future.

I have had this very same issue with our JVC - same model. At first we thought - who did what to the video camera - but it was perfect as if we just took it from the box. Ours was about a year old - "lens cap on" is all we see and much like you said it disables the camera. We finally broke down & bought a new one...we had paid over $300 for it & got less than 12 months usage - definitely a rip-off.

I agree. I got mine for Christmas 2 yrs ago and only used 1/2 year. Looks like enough people have had the same problem.
