Lumix camera turns on but can't take pictures

JB Posted May 12, 2007

The camera seems to be frozen. You can view images but none of the modes work no photos can be taken

The camera DMC-FX8GC was working fine. I downloaded the photos via USB cord to my laptop no problem. Now when I turn the camera on the lens comes out as if ready to go but none of the various photo modes wok. I press the shutter button and nothing. The viewfinder still works but the zoom does not. If I hook up to the laptop I can view the jpegs. If anyone has a similar experience please email me. I am an Aussie living in Manila, if you want any tips on The Philippines I can help, not exactly relevant I know but if it means I can get it working happy to help. Thanks

Thanks for the reply I have taken the battery out but it did not help. The last time the camera was used was on a hot day her in the philippines and maybe coming in caused some condensataion inside the case. Do you think I should try and open the case to see, or leave it to a service technician here in Manilla, if I can find one. The point being that if there is condensation in the case it has been a week so the damage is probably already done. Is there anything that could go wrong if I do open the case as in any springs that might pop out making the whole thing a nightmare Thanks again for your help on this John

It would appear as though part of the cameras logic circuit has locked up for some reason or another, although stating a possibly obvious point that applies to ALL equipment controlled by logic circuits, but have you tried removing the battery for a few minutes to allow the circuit to reset? If this doesnt help, then is there any possibility that condensation moisture can be present within the casing?
