You might try tracing back the audio circuit from the speakers. If you don't have the schematic you could use an ohm meter to check what components that are in the audio circuit and pull the circuit board and touch up the solder connections for the audio section. The fact that when you bang on a certain part of the case and the audio comes back to normal temporarily could indicate a cold solder joint or oxidation has developed over time.
