Thanks a lot Steve for your advice, the Panasonic cleaner cleared the problem partially. however it does pop up now and agin. to cheat the system when to problem appears I remove the tape and switch the camera on, it beeps beeps. then I switch it off, on again and insert the cassette in and here we it works. thanks

It may sound strange, but a lot of problems are generated by a dirty head. I had similar problem and was searhing the internet for a service centre. One site recommended that a head cleaner was a cheap and useful first step as it claimed most generated errors are from dirty heads. It also said that heads do not like it if you use more than one brand of tape as the all have different magnetinc compositions and this affects the head. I purchased a Panosonic head cleaner for around £8 of the internet and that (to my surprise solved the problem)I can't remeber the site, but if I find a link I'll post it.

My PANASONIC NV-DS28 had the same problem after a year of use, and after sending to panasonic service centre and repaired for US$300, the same problem surfaced and would not go away. THIS really make me MAD about the whole thing and frustrated with PANASONIC CAMCORDER!!!
