Re[2]: JVC service or questions

Jeff Posted Mar 15, 2007, in response to:Vincent

ADD ME TO THE LIST!! God I love the internet! My AV32980 quit working just like all the others on this forum. Working fine, then all of the sudden, boom, won't turn on. I was literally looking through the yellow pages to decide which repair shop to take it to, when I decided to just check the internet for any tips on repairing a JVC TV. Found this forum, read the other problem descriptions just like mine, figured that had to be it. In 45 minutes I went to Radio Shack, bought the 1000uf capacitor, got into the TV chassis, found the cap, de-soldered it, soldered in the new one, and walla! Working fine now. Forums like this are just an incredible resource for the folks. Obviously I would NEVER have even begun to know where to look for the problem without this help. Here's a little more info for those who follow: The capacitor you will find at Radio Shack is an AXIAL LEAD type, meeaning it has a wire lead coming out of each end of the device. The capacitor you will take out of the TV is a RADIAL LEAD type, meaning it has both leads coming out of one end. Don;t let this difference bother you. Just bend the leads so they will fit into the hole spacing on the PCB and position the new cap. nice and snug down. The capacitor is marked with which lead is negative. The board is marked with which hole is positive. As long as you get the polarity right the new style will work fine. Also, as suggested in this forum I went ahead and bought the 50 volt capacitor, hoping it will last longer. Seems to work fine so I would suggest that for others. It cost $2.59 instead of $1.69 for the 35v.

It worked! My son gave me his old JVC AV 32980 that quit just like the others in this post.I haven't fixed a TV since they had tubes and were hand wired so I took the chassis to a local shop and showed them C926,the capacitor to replace. They had the 1000uf 50v capacitor and put it in for $10.00 while I waited. The guy said that that fix probably would not work, but he checked the old capacitor and it tested bad. After I replaced the chassis I called the shop back to say what a good job they did and how good the picture looked! I'm so glad Al Gore invented the internet. My capacitor was black and right near another that was smaller, but right where the posts said it was, right of dead center about 5 o'clock.

I have a JVC AV32985 with a similar problem as the ones previously described but I do not know if it the same. The TV can not be powered on but the TIMER LED IS FLASHING (a symptom that I have not seen described in the previous cases of other persons). If I unplug the TV for a while and reconnect, I hear the TV screen going ON for about 5 seconds but it remain black then turns itself of and the timer led start flashing again. Please let me know if it is the same problem and I should do the C926 capacitor thing. Thanks in advance for helping me. Steve

What capacitor are you talking about. I am having the same problem that it will not turn on and the fuse looks ok.
