Camcorder lense not seeing anything

I have a GR-SXM250U Camcorder that is about 3 years old. I has not been working for about a year and a half. The screen works to display the video on the tape, however when trying to record the screen displays a message to remove the lense cover....even though it is not on the camera. There is no display in the viewfinder (it's black) any guess on the problem and the cost for repair?
