Actually, what happened was I charged it for about 1 1/2hrs, then when I turned it on, the light came on & red lines were all over the LCD screen & in the viewfinder. The light was stuck on, and I finally had to shine it at a light for it to turn off, but the lines were still there. This happens with or without a tape in. The viewfinder didn't stop working until a couple of days later. I'm also not sure if it's new or used. It has a full manufacturer's warranty with it.
