JVC insists that you be able to show an original purchase receipt simply to stop dealers buying up faulty camcorders at knock down prices, getting them repaired free, then making the proverbial "quick buck". A credit card receipt is also acceptable to them. Its always a good idea to keep the purchase receipt (or other evidence of purchase) inside the box that the camcorder originally came in, this also being convenient for sending it safely back for repair, like for the image sensor replacement.
