This sounds like not only convergence but also bad resistors on the convergence board. There are several resistors in the convergence area, I would change the convergence amps and have the resistors replaced. Look for burnt resistor or just colored differently than the others. check also for loose connections. you can tap on safely converg. board and see if problem changes.
