Hi Bob. I don't know who you are but I googled my camera problem and found your answer for the white screen. THANK YOU!! I don't know how you figured it out but I'm sure glad you took the time to post it. One rap and we're all good. My camera wasn't working this morning and you can bet I was looking around at these kids (all six of them) to figure out who dropped the camera, busted it and didn't want to 'fess up! wow -- we are so happy to find a FREE fix!!   I'm basically nobody, just had a non-functioning Sony DSC-S40 and couldn't get any satisfactory assistance from Sony.
  
  I discovered this fix after looking at the info from Eric and thinking about what might be going on inside the camera.
  
  I posted the fix hoping to save folks some money. I didn't have a spare $111.00 for the Sony repair service fee.
