hi mark: thankx for the reply. i just got around to taking the set apart. i replaced the fuse for starters, but it still does the same thing. i recently dismantled another jvc set. when i pulled the circuit board out all the control buttons fell out. i did not have the patience to even try to put it back together again. this time i learned my lesson. i am not even going to try to replace a capacitor!!!!! i was just looking for a big screen tv with a s-video jack so i could test out a dell computer i just installed a graphics card in. thankx for your help. your pal, vinnyval
