My kv-24fv12 sony trinitron just died after 5 years of faithful service. I took it into the repair shop, and the estimate is $200 to replace the "high voltage" section aka the flyback transformer everyone is talking about on here.
I don't know what to do; the TV isn't worth that much anymore, I'd be better off using that money towards a new TV. Has anyone tried to perform the maintenance themselves? How much is a flyback transformer anyways?
I've been looking into this problem for a few days now and it seems that lots of people have had problems with their Sony TVs not turning on. This is ridiculous, but since my TV is way past warranty, there's nothing I can do really.
