I have a JVC AV-32980 that is about 6 years old. Same thing... my power wouldn't come on. I Googled JVC TV service, found this thread, and went to Radio Shack.
I bought the capacitor before even opening my TV (My trust in you was well placed!). When I opened the TV I discovered that there are TWO TYPES OF CAPACITORS that meet the 100M/35V specification. One is coaxial connection (wire coming out of each end of the cylinder). The other is radial connection (two wires coming out of each end).
MAKE SURE TO BUY THE CAPACITOR WITH THE TWO WIRES COMING OUT OF THE SAME END OF THE CYLINDER... I.E. CAPACITOR WITH RADIAL CONNECTION). I removed the old capacitor, went back to Radio Shack to get a new one with the right type of connection, and POOF>>> $1.17 and 20 Minutes later my TV is working again. THANKS GUYS!!!
(Too bad JVC refuses to acknowledge the problem... Note to self...:)
