Hi Paul - It's Christmas Eve and I have discovered the same problem with my JVC camcorder as you had - an error that it's in safeguard mode and that I need to remove and reattach battery... What did you end up doing?? I was hoping to continue the family tradition and use the camcorder in the morning, but that might not be happening...
