The problem is usually the spindle motor. The commutator gets clogged with particles which are conductive and basically shorts out the motor and overloads the driver chip which usually has a overload protection and mutes all channels in the chip thereby not allowing anything to work.You can check the motor with a resistance meter ,anything below 11 ohms indicates a shorted motor.Just slowing turn the motor while watching the meter.
