From what you describe, "Dead Set, Timer LED comes on" "Will only reset if unplugged", it sounds as if your TV is experiencing High Voltage or X-Ray Shutdown. There have been known problems in the sensing circuit that will shut down the set and leave the Timer LED on.

I have the exact same problem, but it happens at the same time every day. I checked to see if some sort of timer was set but I couldn't find one.
any ideas?
