have 36 sony this same poblem. 6or7 yrs old + problem push volume on chassi channel changes. screen blank for 3 min. on start up then 0.5 sec on then 3 sec. off. gradually over 10 min. changing to 0.5 sec blank to 1.5 sec. picture with occassionally staying on for 5 sec. Use these five sec. to make ajustments. Idecided to ajust the color to see if set was worth taking in Standby light had been on constant for monthes now after adjustments it was actually out until I did a bunch of channel changes but tv hasn't blanked for three hours go to menu get brightness up lower color levels lumesponder off had hard time goinging through menu when tv blanks you loose menu ? does cleaning help mine is very dusty does anyone remember exercising pots
