HomeMy son purchased a used JVC Gr (not sure of the rest of the number)Dv camera with no paperwork. He does not have the equipment to play the tapes he films, but when he hooks it up to a TV, there is no sound... So, he is not sure where the problem might be and he is cautious about buying other accessories if the camera itself is not working. Should the sound play through the TV if it is hooked up properly? Is there a way to check the tapes without buying a converter and a vcr? I hope I am being accurate enough in my description of the problem that you can reply. Thanks.

Rick, Look at the cable that goes from the camera to the TV. If it is like most DV cameras, it will have a mini, single pin connector that plugs into the camera. The other end plugs into your TV and should have 3 RCA plugs; Yellow (video) and Red & White (left & right channels of the audio). If you only have 2 wires to hook up to the TV, that is your problem. That kind of cable is for mono audio. You need to get a stereo AV cable. If your connections are different than what I described, the concept is the same; you should still have 3 wires going to the TV. Other than that, I would make sure you can hear audio on the camera when you play it back. That will verify the tape is OK and everything internally is working except for possibly the external audio output circuit, which would take a good repair tech to figure out. Hope this helps. |
