Re: JVC 32 TV AV-32980

Steve W Posted Nov 29, 2004, in response to:Tony Cooper

A BIG thanks to Art and Rich P. for diagnosing this issue since it appears to be a common (and growing) problem. I recently ran into the same problem on my AV-32980 TV set and found that replacing C926 with a new part solved my problem. I did not find any visible signs of damage or wear when I removed the old part so don't let that stop you if you are experiencing this phenomenon. The capacitor I removed is a Rubycon 1000uF, 35V electolytic part from their "YK" product family. If you lookup this part on Rubycon's web site you will find that this part has a rated lifetime of 2000 hours. Gee, that's about 1.5 Hr's a day for 4 years so not what I would consider a "robust" design. No doubt this "lifetime" will be affected by the voltage levels the part sees during its life, temperature, ripple current, etc. .... it makes me think that the design, test and QA group at JVC might have missed this one. Oh well, $1.59 at Radio Shack and I'm back in business. Thanks again.

I had the very same problem. The cap. was bulging and noted a little of browning on the board which indicated a bit of over heating. Found replacement 1000uF, 35V clearing out at Radio Shack ($.99 Cdn). Working like a charm. Thanks. Before this, I also had a new 36' JVC, it shuts off after 2 months of use while still under warranty. Tech. said it needed new module and parts.... I returned the unit to vendor for full refund and since bought a Wega. This could be a design problem with all JVC's.
