I have one of the earlier models of the DSR-200 and experienced a similar problem. We discovered that there was a recall issued on the earlier serial numbers to repair the problem and our camera fell under the repair. Sony repaired it for free. Unfortunately, I can't recall what exactly was causing the problem.
