What is wrong with your deck? Bad firewire connection. Bad Heads? I have repaired the firewire jacks on a WVdr-7 and a WV-dr5 with an LA based professional service center. I did have service done with Sony (USA) directly, but this may now be a little more difficult.

The service center that repaired the firewire jack on my WVDR-5 & 7 is Smith & Larsen in Van Nuys California on Van Nuys Boulevard. Price was $75 or $80.

I have a Sony WV DR7 with a "non-functioning" Fire-wire port. Do you remmeber wha the problem was with your deck? I sent mine to the Sony Service center in Bristol Penn only to have them tell me that they could not work on it because it's a forign deck. What's the name of the service center in LA?
