JVC GR-D90U

JVC help

I have a JVC GR-D90U and one day the screen was white and now it is black with lines and will not work. Not even play back a video. It keeps telling me my lens cap is on, when in fact it is not. I think maybe it might have hit direct sunlight not sure? any assistance is greatly appreciated.

My JVC GR-DX25E got the same problem. No direct sun recording, and no hot car, but same problem. I prefered sending it to service, and it was also the CCD. I got a new LYH20646-001A (code in bill) or LYH30446-0024-S (code in box where they packed the broken one for me), for 58,62 € (~50€), and 63,33€ (~54$) for 100 minutes work.

I just replaced the CCD base aasembly on my JVC GR-D90U, to fix the "Lens Cap Error". The part # for the CCD is LYH30446-001A-S, about $58 regular UPS from partstore.com. The job is not for the faint of heart and requires VERY good soldering skills. So far the camera is working normally just like it always has. I never pointed my camera into the sun. The camera quit working after being left in hot car for about 2 hours. I know this was the cause, because I have a habit of recording with the camera before I leave the house, although it was no damn help this time. As a point of interest, the CCD is mounted to a heat sink with epoxy. I popped the CCD off of the heat sink, and guess what, it is made by SONY!! The part # on the back of the CCD is SONY 325X7YK 1CX280 JKA Googling these numbers turned up nothing.

I have a jvc gr-d30u that has a similar problem. being the electronics nerd I am i tore into it. sure enough I believe i have a ccd failure. from the description of your problem I don't know that your ccd failed. the ccd isn't involved in playback so I would imagine you may have a main board failure (using my camera as reference). a main board cost as much as my camera so it may be the same with you. mine plays back just fine and when I was manipulating the ccd assembly I kept getting momentary lines in the black on my lcd. this tells me the ccd probably failed due to excessive heat from being in my car. i took the ccd off the optical assembly to ensure a bad iris wasn't the culprit and there was still black. disconnecting the ccd showed no change, so i'm fairly confident that the ccd took a nose dive. If you're looking for parts try www.partstore.com. they list the ccd for the d90 and d30 (same ccd) at about $46. it will require soldering to the ccd board assembly as it is just the base assembly for that price (ccd and metal mount plate). hope this helps.
