Re: sony camcorder

On any device no matter what that uses a fold out LCD screen thats defective the only thing that can accurately indicate that the actual screen itself requires replacement is if its seen to be physically cracked.

Should this not be in evidence then its most likely that the interconnecting ribbon cable that runs inside the LCD's swivel bracket thats the culprit, as one or more of its tracks has likely developed a fatigue break, this also being a common thing to happen on fold out type mobile phones with a blank LCD.

The only other thing that can cause a blank screen is if the back-light unit has failed, this usually being the case (but not always!) if its possible to see faint B&W images on the screen if is viewed from the side with a torch shining along it, however this isnt so common a fault as the ribbon cable and so I would consider that the prime suspect.

Other more dastardly (and expensive to fix) electronic defects can cause the problem, but as they are so uncommon its not worth mentioning.

Thanks for your help. Before the screen went blank,it lost colour and appeared with only a red hue to it.As I use it very frequently, the ribbon sounds logical. Can you supply the ribbon. And can I do the repairs?.Have basic knowledge if not too difficult. thanks again JEFF
