HomeDoor rings continuously My Nutone IM 3003 doorbell chime just rings continuously. I had to disconnect from speaker to stop the sound. Also has a humming sound in background. I noticed that some of the parts on the board had small amount of corrosion. Any ideas on how to fix or what area of the board controls the chime would be appreciated.

Thanks, JB. I'll try that and get back to you. Depends entirely on what has caused the corrosion, but the very fact of it being there will likely be causing the conduction of electricity into the more sensitive lower voltage parts of the circuitry which can result in all sorts of peculiar problems. Water damage is liable to be the cause of this, but no matter what might have caused it this is the procedure to use, with everything unplugged and with the aid of a small stiff bristled brush dipped into methylated spirits or similar, give the area the corrosion is seen in a good brushing over, after which leave it to dry for about an hour or so before powering up the device again. To somewhat speed the process up, if available you could blow dry the area with the aid of a hairdryer set on its cooler setting. |
