JVC 5.1 system power fail

Scott Mc Donough Posted Jul 29, 2010

JVC 5.1 home audio model SP-PWM505/ system TH=M505

Was listening to the audio for about an hour, then "pop" and all power failed. Try to turn on, and it does for a second then fails again. The lights in the house dim when I attempt to turn this unit on. Is there a fuse anywhere that needs replacing? Or any other concerns please help. I'm disabled and have a small income,so I'll be the electrician. Thank you, Scott.

Firstly, there is no way whatsoever that any piece of domestic electronic equipment can dim house lights as the excessively high power consumption taken to do that would blow either its internal, or alternatively the plug fuse, however "if" the equipment mentioned is plugged into an adaptor socket which is also used for the lights then that symptom is an indication of a faulty socket or adaptor. Secondly, once the exact cause of the above situation is determined and rectified, and if the JVC device still responds as was mentioned then it indicates that its power supply is shutting down for safety reasons, this most likely because there is a defective component somewhere which is drawing a heavy current, a likely place being the power amps.
