camera lightly hit the water (in the case)

Kurt Posted Jul 03, 2010

Water in camera.

Wife fell out of boat into water and out of water quickly, camera (Mavica-CD350)in case but slightly open. Small water droplets found in battery case. The unit will not power up. Is it ruined? Can it be repaired and is it worth it? Is it just a new batter? Could water have gotten into electronics (is the case sealed)?

Although it isn't necessarily waterproof it may have survived serious damage, so first of all take the battery out then give the camera a good shake in all orientations then leave it sitting for about 24 hours in a warm place, after which do the same again and leave it about another 12 hours before trying it out, giving it a final shake before you do. The main thing is NOT to persevere trying to get it to work until you have carried out the procedure mentioned as the longer water conducts the electricity to parts it shouldn't the more the danger of permanent damage being done, so the battery MUST be left out whilst you carry out the aforementioned procedure.
