sony multisystem tv problems interacting with the vcr/dvd player

model kv1484mt -bought in the early 90's. had to have it to watch american tv/british cable in italy. now it is hooked up to dishnet but it won't recognize the vcr or the dvd player. it has all these little settings on it i.e. sys M, sys D/K, sys I, and sys B/g. seems to work best on M.It also has auto/pal-works on auto. ideas?
