Use the firewire (DVi) connection and you do not require any, that is so long as you have Windows movie maker installed as standard on your PC. Desktop PC's usually having a 6 pin firewire socket whereas the camcorder has a 4 pin one, so its a firewire cable 6 pin at one end and 4 pin at the other end.
