Humming noise connecting an AUXiliary Audio Source to a NuTone IMA-3303

Roy Posted Apr 04, 2010

Loud humming noise when connecting an auxiliary audio device to the AUXiliary or CD/Tape Input of a NuTone IMA-3303.

I have a Sanyo Internet Radio that I would like to connect to the AUXiliary Input of a NuTone IMA-3303. I was using a 3.5mm Mini Stereo cable and as a result all I hear is a loud humming noise. I tried to connect the Internet Radio as well to the CD/Tape Input with the same result. Makes me wonder whether I using the wrong cable? What audio cables should I use and give me the best result (no humming)?

Although I am not acquaint with the devices mentioned I can say that as a general rule a humming noise of the magnitude mentioned is nearly always caused by lack of continuity in the earth link between the devices. Try connecting a wire between the chassis on one device to the chassis on the other, or if the chassis is plastic covered the metal casing of any plug that may be seen.
