Well any CRT type of TV at six years old failing would be considered by any reasonable thinking person as having had quite a good life, so why dont you phone up or visit some local repair shops and get an estimate for repair if Sony wasn't very willing to assist, which is maybe just as well as main brand (any!)repair sections charge premium service charges and so its always best avoiding them.
