JVC Camcorder shows a blanks screen when recording options are chosen.

I have a JVC GR-D20EK and last year it stopped working and i just left it. I am now due to go away and i would like to kow if there is a fix for the issue. When i go into reocrd mode i get a grey screen (with an idea of light acorss the top, so not completely black) the message suggests the lens cap is in place, which it isn't. It may have been exposed to very cold temps and then heat as the last time i used it i was skiing. Can i fix it?
