Camera switches on, can view images on memory stick/card. Can't take new images as lens cover won't open.

Does anyone know how to fix this please? The battery is fully charged but the lens won't open. Screen message is 'switch power off and on again' but doing that makes no difference. Help please! I need this camera for my work!!
