Well it this happens with more than one cassette then it indicates that the loading tray is liable to be jamming before completion of the operation, this possibly (but not necessarily) because a cassette has been "assisted" out of its holder and caused slight warping the metal carriage. By the way also try it with the mains power supply connected in case its a low voltage problem.
