Help.

Hi I just bought a home built in 1986, and the home has 5 outdoor nutone scovill door signal speaker boxes surface mounted to the walls. Inside I have Nutone 4 tube Chime, and Chime module, and a area in the Butlers Pantry that has something missing that was surface mounted. I had someone come look at it and he said the door speakers were wired through the phone system. Down stairs I have a mess of phone lines etc, Nobody knows anything. I just want to get this working properly, and am assuming I may need a certain type of phone so the door signals can ring the phones? If anyone is familar with this I would appreciate the help, the guy who came out was stumped, and so am I Thanks Bill
