What can I do to restore my MV890 Cnon camcorder?

I used an old film to view some footage in this camcorder and it showed a broken up picture with horizontal coloured lines. Since then I have been unable to record new footage or view any of my other films taken with this camera. Can anyone please suggest what is wrong and what I can do about it? Frustrated Granny.
