Its quite unrealistic to expect any domestic equipment to last over five years or so without something happening to it at some point, especially a TV. As regards to condemning Sony, "any" brand of TV can fail at any time, so moving to another make doesnt really make that much difference and in many cases only introduces another set of problems that has been hitherto not known about.
