TV Tube suddenly not powering up

I have an older JVC Model AV-3171S 31" TV that has given yeoman's service. Until yesterday its performance has been flawless, and picture quality has continuously been phenomenal - particularly considering its age. Yesterday during bad weather we had the power blink off once. The TV was plugged into a surge protector with other JVC stereo equipment and the disruption DID NOT blow the reset on the power strip and the other equipment apparently were unaffected. The TV however makes "bong" sound when the power button is pushed, but neither the power light or the screen lights up. I opened the back of the unit enough to ascertain that the power supply fuse is not blown. Any ideas? I'd like to save this unit if possible.
