JVC AV-48WP55 rear projection TV

I have a JVC AV-48WP55 rear projection TV, that quit working after a power surge during a thunderstorm. All it will do now, is the green led light will come on for a second in the front of the TV, when you plug the unit in. I have opened the back of the unit up, and see a brown substance on the very right hand circuit board, and especially around a componet on the very front of that board. Not sure what it is, but it seems to connect to another unit with 3 other large wires like the one it connects to. What else can I look for or check out, as I have some basic electronic experience.
