How to fix error code L3001

Whenever i play a tape on my VCR SVO2000 (basically the same as the SLVR1000) the picture appears for a brief second and then goeas away allthough the tape is still running. If i press play and immediately press Slow Motion or Frame it will reappear on screen in that mode. After the tape has run for a few minutes it stops and displays the error code L 30 01 Please help
