Anyone have any experience with old Nutone intercom systems?

Our ~50 year old Nutone system has never worked since we moved into the house. It doesn't light-up or make any noise. I measured ~48V DC coming into the unit, so it seems to be getting some juice. Is it worthwhile to get these unit repaired? Anyone have any experience sending these units off for repair?
