As you appear to be in the UK you should try contacting JVC's spare parts department as they sold replacement CCD's for their range of "D" model camcorders, possibly because they were aware that hundreds of these models suffered from failures of the image sensors. (by the way they were just under £20.00) The model you mention is not known to suffer from faulty CCD's so if that is indeed faulty its very unusual. (excluding sun damage which can affect any model)
