Re: Sony Vaio PCG-V505BX

Hello,
I have been working on these Vaio laptops as a hobby for a few years now.
Some of the older models will do nothing when the CMOS battery becomes old and will not hold a charge. Usually you can recharge the battery using a RC Toy Battery Charger or something like that. Careful, cuz they get hot and the green plastic will melt. Just cover again with black electric tape.
Also, try cooling and heating the laptop. This creates contraction and expansion of the boards and connections. In the event there is some contact issuses from moisture over time. Place in a plastic bag and in to the frig for 30-60 minutes. For heating, preheat the oven to 125 F then turn it off. Place a rack mid way in the oven. Put the laptop in upside dowm on a cloth pot holder on the rack for about 10 min. Remove and let cool. Then try to start it up.
Sounds crazy, but so does sending an old laptop in for repair and paying as much as a new one is crazy too.

Oh, forgot to mention, there is a small pin hole on the bottom of the V505. This is a reset button for the internal power board. Each time you try to power the unit and it fails, then insert a pin or something that fits in the hole. You know when you activate the switch because you can feel it click. Hold it for 30 seconds with the power plugged in and battery installed. After you remove the pin, then unplug the power supply and remove the battery. Then reinsert the power and battery and try to start again.
Also, try to cycle the LCD lid a few times open and close. Sometimes the wires and insulation get old and short out. Opening and closing will kinda move things around until it works again.
