You should not require any software using a firewire connection, but however you will require some video manipulation software installed on your PC /laptop as it will have a "capture" facility, so any standard programme will do like Windows movie maker (installed as standard) or bought programmes like Nero etc. If you are not using XP or Vista then difficulties might arise.
