Question about replacing old intercom system

I have an Nutone IMD-313 intercom/radio/tape player system in my 1980's house that still works for the most part. I would like to replace with an upadated CD/intercom/radio system...such as the Nutone IM4406. We are wanting to do this ourselves (with some help from my electrical engineer brother) and I know there are some differences between 3-wire and 4-wire. Would this type of system be easy to replace using the existing wiring? Thanks!
