KV-32V68 only shows a black screen and the unit's red "TIMER" light blinks once a second with no pattern (meaning it blinks once a second as long as the unit's turned on).

I've got a Sony KV-32V68 made in Jan 1999. The other day it was working fine then a small horizontal blip of rainbow colors (about 3 super-thin horizontal lines) were visible before the screen went black. Now when I power the TV on (it makes the same "turn on" sound it's always made) the red "TIMER" light on the front of the case turns on steady for a few moments (about the length of time it would normally take the TV to actually begin to show a picture) then begins to blink once a second and continues until the unit is turned off. Any ideas whether a fuse/fuses could have blown? I have no problems removing the back of the case but I want to make sure I know what I'm looking for in order to prevent touching the wrong thing.
