HD recorder JVC DR-MH 220 boot failure

I have a JVC DR-MH 220 HD recorder that suddenly fails to start. It just keeps displaying the 'PLEASE WAIT' message forever but nothing further happens. I have tried unplugging the device for some hours without any effect. Do I have other options before handing it in to a service dealer? Thanks in advance /Bo
