Jvc camcorder is not seen by pc.

I have a JVC GR-D370u mini-dv camcorder that is not recognized by my pc with windows xp when I try to download from mini-dv using fire card and fire wire. It will recognize the camcorder when switched to memory and I can down load still pictures. PC says the fire wire card is operational. I have all the drivers for camcorder but actually microsoft movie maker should not need driver to download from mini-dv. I have seen the same problem from many people online. They have tried different fire wire cards and still nothing works. Camcorder is out of warrenty but I do not mind having it repaired if you think it is the camcorder. Please reply.
