As you failed to mention what the model number of your JVC camcorder is its difficult to give an exact answer, however a range of models suffered whats known as the lens cap defect and yours could well be one of them. JVC is offering a free repair on this problem to the original purchasers of the device, if you go into JVC's homepage you should see a link for "other areas". By the way any camcorders with a "D" followed by three digit numbers, or a "DF" or "DV" model with a lens cap symptom is "not" covered by the offer as the fault can be caused by other reasons other than a faulty image sensor.
